How to extract audio from a video

Which format should you choose?
MP3 is the safest choice if you want the audio to play everywhere. We use a high-quality variable bitrate (around 190 kbps on average).
M4A is ideal for videos recorded on phones and cameras. Most of them store their audio in AAC format, and in that case we copy the original audio into the M4A file without re-encoding it. There is no quality loss, and it is almost instant.
WAV is uncompressed. Files are large (about 10 MB per minute) but perfect for editing in audio or video software, where you want to avoid any extra compression.

Supported files
MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, MKV and AVI files up to 1 GB. If a video has several audio tracks, the first (default) track is extracted.

What is the difference with the MP4 to MP3 converter?
MP4 to MP3 is made for one job: MP4 videos to MP3 with a choice of bitrate. Extract Audio accepts more video formats and more output formats, including a lossless option.
Will I lose quality?
With M4A, when the video’s audio is already AAC, the audio is copied exactly and nothing is lost. MP3 re-encodes the audio at high quality. WAV stores the decoded audio without further compression.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Extraction happens in your browser, on your device.
Why is my WAV file so large?
WAV is uncompressed, so it uses about 10 MB per minute of stereo audio. Choose MP3 or M4A for smaller files.
