How to make a GIF from a video
- Choose your video.
- Play it and set the start time, then choose the duration.
- Pick a width and frame rate (480 px at 10 fps is a good start).
- Click “Create GIF” and download it.
Getting a good GIF at a reasonable size
GIF is an old format that stores every frame as an image with at most 256 colors, so files grow quickly. Short clips, a moderate width and 10–15 frames per second give the best balance.
We generate a custom color palette for each GIF, which keeps colors much closer to the original video than a standard palette.

GIF compression is inefficient. Reduce the duration, width or frame rate to make it smaller.
